Science

The Federation of Grove House and Kings Park Infant Schools uses White Rose scheme of work for Science. This ensures children are provided with a structured, comprehensive and engaging approach to Science education.

White Rose Science uses a clear progression of knowledge and skills. The curriculum is planned to ensure children not only acquire factual knowledge but also develop the working scientifically skills necessary to apply this knowledge effectively. Each year builds on the previous one, creating a solid foundation for future learning.

The National Curriculum is broken down into manageable blocks planned over the course of the year to ensure progressive learning.

Intent

Our vision for Science is to ensure that every child has a variety of opportunities to develop a passion for discovery and exploration. We do this by promoting the joy of not knowing through our Learning Power; Captain Curiosity.

Implementation

Children are exploring science in the Early Years, through Understand the world, as well as across the curriculum, developing a passion for this. We hold a Science week each academic year where the children are able to take part in a number of experiments and work with children in different year groups. As learners progress through Key Stage 1, practical experiments are explored alongside making predictions and recording results.

Impact

When learners reach the end of Key Stage 1, they are ready for their next stage of learning as we strive to facilitate curious, knowledge driven learners who have explored a number of skills and who are motivated to explore and discover; every learner is a Captain Curiosity.
